The COVID vaccine saves lives. Period.
COVID-19 cases are on the rise again. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) recently announced that even fully-vaccinated Americans should wear masks in indoor settings, in large crowds, and whenever transmission is likely. While masks are not yet mandatory again, they are strongly encouraged. The return of these precautions is because the highly-contagious Delta variant accounts for 90% of new cases in Colorado. Evidence has shown vaccinated people without symptoms can transmit the Delta variant.
Let’s be honest with each other. The resurgence of COVID-19 and the more dangerous Delta variant has occurred because people refused to wear masks and get vaccinated. They served as a reservoir for the virus and incubators for the mutating versions then transmitted the deadlier form to those around them. Furthermore, the unvaccinated in our country account for over 90% of the COVID deaths and are placing increasing demands on our overstressed ICU’s, hospital staff and first responders.
In America, the vaccine is readily available and free. Yet the unvaccinated offer a variety of excuses. I’ve heard them all by now. Speaking as a physician with 26 years of experience and trained as a cellular biologist, I can tell you with authority there are zero logical, scientific objections to the COVID vaccine. The technology for mRNA vaccines has been in development for decades. Hundreds of millions of doses have been given with remarkably little risk and remarkably high efficacy. Keep in mind the polio, small pox, measles, mumps, chicken pox, tetanus, influenza, and shingles vaccines were all new. Have you seen many cases of polio lately?
Receiving the COVID vaccine and wearing a mask is not about governmental control, it is about civic responsibility.
Refusing to get vaccinated and wear a mask is not about freedom, it is about selfishness.
Please be safe and stay healthy.
