So far in 2025, the CDC reports there have been over 250 cases in Texas and less than 50 cases in New Mexico. The first case in Colorado was confirmed yesterday in Pueblo. Seventy patients have been hospitalized and 2 patients have died. Nearly all measles infections have occurred in patients who were not immunized with the MMR vaccine.
We can test your immunity to mumps, measles, and rubella (MMR) by checking a blood test for your antibody titers. If you have elevated antibody titers, then you are immune and you do not need to get a booster vaccine. I recommend the following groups get antibody titers checked:
- Patients who are not sure if they received 2 doses of MMR in childhood
- Patients who are traveling internationally, or traveling to New Mexico and Texas
- Healthcare workers
- Patients who are immunocompromised
- Patients who just want to know
Patients born before 1957 have "presumed immunity" meaning they likely developed a natural immunity to measles .
If our patients would like to have their titers checked, they can have the blood test done in our office .
